LinkedIn is a gift to people who are looking for an opportunity to grow their networks and create new business partnerships.
It’s easy to find great contacts by following the steps outlined in this article.
The biggest thing to remember when making connections is that they need to be authentic and relevant to your professional network.
Taking the time to email a new connection is one of the easiest ways to build relationships.
Found a new connection on LinkedIn that would be ripe for cultivating a relationship with?
Here are some ideas for striking up a chat with a new LinkedIn friend.
1. Make an introduction and ensure it’s a good first impression
KISS. Keep is super simple. Mention the why behind connecting.
2. Mention common ground
Bring up any correlations that exist between the two of you. You could even pose a question about their professional goals, passions, projects, or hobbies. Then discuss these commonalities.
3. Ask how you can help
You need to offer value first. Do not go into the ask. Figure out how you can help them first. Remember, you approached them first. But remember the KISS.
4. Continue to grow the relationship and identify ways to help the grooming process
Maybe you can mention them in a post to identify solutions to their problems. Maybe you can snag a quote from them for your next post.
Asking for a favor can be intimidating, but it’s also one of the most effective ways to build relationships with other professionals. The exception would be if they can benefit from the favor as well.
An example of this could be if you’re asking for a quote from someone for an article that you’re writing. You benefit from getting content for your article, and that person will benefit from some free promotion. It’s a win-win.
At a glance: LinkedIn connections are relationships that can serve as a powerful tool for business growth. That’s why it’s important to remember to nurture the ones you build.
