Another Client Hired!

A client came to me recently in a spot I see many in when trying to decide how to offset the red flags on his resume due to some short stints.

(Note, it was not his fault, but recruiters sometimes won’t know that so you must make the right first impression and allow for engagement so you can clarify the reasoning behind your troubled work history.)

He didn’t know where to start.

How to start.

What to get on his resume so it’s relevant.

So much has changed in the job hunting game since he last went through the whole job hunting process.

His head was literally spinning.

It’s like that feeling when you’ve got it all figured out and then someone walks in the room and lays out 10 other things you never even knew were possible about whatever the heck you’re doing.

Now you’re 10 steps back from where you were, but an essential 10 steps. Learning constantly is key to be better.

So this is what I told him:

You must position your messaging towards your preferred role.

You must comply with ATS mandates to ensure you’re being read by human eyeballs eventually.

You must pass the 6-second test. It does exist and is a very real thing for recruiters, resume experts and hiring managers.

What advice would you have given my friend?

“Thanks Matt! Couldn’t have achieved getting my dream job at an exceptional company like Cisco, without your resume expertise. Your resume ignited the fire and now it’s my turn to make the fireworks. Appreciate your help. Hope you are doing well. I will gladly recommend your name if anyone in my network needs a resume makeover. Best, Kalpit.”
