It happens all the time.
A recruiter callsโฆ
An email pops upโฆ
โCan you interview this afternoon?โ
Suddenly youโve got 2โ3 hours to prepare for a conversation that could change your career.
The good news?
You donโt need days of preparation to walk into that interview confident. What you need is a focused strategy that lets you quickly connect your experience to what the employer actually cares about.
Hereโs how to prepare fast and effectively when the clock is ticking.โฑ๏ธ
Check this out๐
1๏ธโฃ Check out the company’s missions, values or principalsย (the name vary between companies) and try to weave it into an answer or question (“Oh I see transparency and honesty are your core principals and I live by those values as well, so wondering how this person can arrive day one and instill those into the workplace immediately so I am working alongside the company’s goals properly?”).
2๏ธโฃ Match each line item on job description to one accomplishment…frame the answer with 30 secondsย macro-level about “yes, I can handle full project management, and have done so for 2 years now, including a time at XYZ whereย I did (this should be less than 90 seconds and where you discuss the relating accomplishment with a 1. what did you get tasked with, 2. what did you do, and 3. what was the outcome?).
3๏ธโฃ Know your resume inside and out, line by line
4๏ธโฃ Find out anything you can about the hiring manager and why the role is open (LinkedIn research).
5๏ธโฃ Any recent news or industry insights you could weave into the conversation?
6๏ธโฃ 3 closing questions (What else can the person filling this position do to make your job easier? I read that X, Y and Z are the companyโs values. Can you give me an example of what these values look like in action? Name examples of leaders who have motivated or inspired you. What are the metrics my performance will be evaluated against? What are the common themes that you find among your highest performers?).
The goal of interview prep isnโt memorizing answers.
Itโs building a few clear stories that show how your experience solves the companyโs problems.
If you can connect your background to their needsโeven with just a couple hours of preparationโyouโll walk into the conversation calm, confident, and credible.
Remember:
Great interviews donโt come from perfect scripts.
They come from knowing your story and aligning it to the opportunity.
And sometimesโฆ two focused hours is all you need.
