👻 Ghost Jobs Are Haunting the Job Hunt 👻

𝗧𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀? 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱, 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗶𝘁? 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀. 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄.

And while we’re on the topic of black holes, did you know that 👻 𝗚𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗝𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁 👻? I came across this fascinating article by the BBC about how 𝗃𝗈𝖻 𝖻𝗈𝖺𝗋𝖽𝗌 𝖺𝗋𝖾 𝗌𝗍𝗂𝗅𝗅 𝗋𝗂𝖿𝖾 𝗐𝗂𝗍𝗁 ‘𝗀𝗁𝗈𝗌𝗍 𝗃𝗈𝖻𝗌’. 𝖶𝗁𝖺𝗍’𝗌 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝗉𝗈𝗂𝗇𝗍?

Ever applied for a job, saw it was posted 30+ days ago, and still hoped for the best? Turns out…that job might’ve never been real to begin with.

A recent article broke down the rise of ghost jobs — roles posted online that either:
➡️ were filled already
➡️ were never meant to be filled
➡️ exist to make the company look like it’s growing
➡️ are just there to collect résumés “in case”

Oof. That’s a lot of wasted time and energy for jobseekers out here grinding. 😩

But you can adapt! Here’s how:

✅ Check the posting date. If it’s been up 30+ days, proceed with caution.
✅ Look at the company’s job board overall. Do they have tons of old listings? Could be a red flag.
✅ Find the hiring manager or recruiter on LinkedIn. Reach out and ask if the role is actively being filled.
✅ Apply smarter, not harder. Target roles that actually fit your background instead of playing the numbers game.
✅ Track your apps. If a company ghosts you every time, maybe it’s time to ghost them back.
