A colleague recently asked me, βWhat is the main quality that you look for when interviewing new candidates for your team?β I responded with the usual: a good attitude, strong work ethic, good personality, etc. While I do feel all of these traits are important, it did make me start thinking more deeply about what the true ideal qualities are in a job candidate.
I started thinking about all of the people I have interviewed during my career and those who eventually joined our team. What characteristics do the successful hires mostly have in common? After much thought and some research, I have come to the conclusion that a growth mindset is at the top of the list of qualities a good candidate should have.
