𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻, 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀:
✏️ Contact Information: include name, city/state if you are locked into specific geography, email, phone, LinkedIn URL, portfolio URL if applicable
✏️ Summary: show off your main 2-3 value offerings as they relate to the targeted role; sprinkle in your best soft skills to lead off each sentence; use strong nouns to describe yourself; never use personal pronouns; if you can use a strong metric, even better; think about your strongest unique selling proposition (USP) and show it off
✏️ Key Skills: use hard skills only here including operational, technical and methodical; the more they relate to the job opening, the better; consider dropping dated skills
✏️ Key Accomplishments: show off your top 5-ish narratives; use project wins and real cause-effect examples; these achievements or accomplishments should either be a bottom-line KPI or metric, something unique like winning an award, speaking at a conference, or being featured in the newspaper or company newsletter, or relate to the role (consider reverse-engineering the job description by seeing what the tasks are and showing a real-life example of not only how you handled that task, but also show your impact or solution to end each sentence) – remember, your goal is to show how you can alleviate the pains the hiring managers are experiencing because of the open requisition and to demonstrate how you can make their lives easier
✏️ Experience: go back 10-15 years maximum to demonstrate relevance; see “key accomplishments” for how to write the content; think PAR for each sentence (problem-action-result)
✏️ Education: drop the dates if you’re 3-5 years past graduation; keep to a single line on the resume to maximize your real estate
✏️ Certification/Training: list only the relevant training and accreditation that relate to your targeted role
✏️ Affiliation: list only the relevant memberships that relate to your targeted role; no explanations necessary, rather just list your role and the organization
✏️ Volunteerism: same as affiliation – no explanations necessary, rather just list your role and the organization
🤘Hope this helps clarify some things. Good luck to you job seekers out there, we got your backs! 🙏
