I came across this fascinating article by the team over at Buffer. It was titled, “I Want to Pivot My Personal Brand โ€” 6 Experts Told Me How to Do It.”

As recruiting continues to digitize at lightning speed, your digital identity and brand are becoming much more important than any old resume could ever be.

Savvy job seekers are realizing that to get their dream job now and in years to come, they need to curate an online personal brand that showcases their expertise and value.

In the not-so-distant future, hiring managers will spend more time scouring the internet for top candidates rather than sifting through piles of dark word documents we call resumes.

They’ll want to find professionals who are thought leaders in their field, connecters in their industry community, and all-around experts to bring visibility and credibility to their organization.

A polished LinkedIn profile crammed full of relevant keywords, a personal website or blog properly optimized to rank for your targeted job titles, engaging social media accounts, and bylines on trusted industry publications are fast becoming table stakes for standing out in recruiters’ searches.

๐Ÿ‘€ Speaking engagements, panel discussions, online courses and other activities that develop your authority and grow your network will separate you from the pack.

Gone will be the days ๐Ÿ‘‹ of blasting the same resume ๐Ÿ“ to 200 job posts and hoping to hear back from just one. Now you need to build your brand as an ongoing marketing campaign ๐Ÿ”ฅ to attract the right opportunities to you.

Developing a presence, cultivating relationships, and sharing helpful content over months and years will allow recruiters and hiring managers to truly understand your value before you’ve even spoken to them directly.

So let them know your brand by the way you present yourself, articulate your value in messages or on marketing collateral, and take on a “less is more” or “walk softly and carry a big stick” mentality when meeting with these decision-makers, and you’ll win them over in no time!

Don’t rely on availability to determine your next rung on the career ladder. Don’t force yourself into a career or even the next 5-10 years at a place where you’ll be miserable, possibly suck your soul away from the toxicity, boredom, or lack of balance.
