Ah, the state of the labor market. I came across this fascinating article by Kory Kantenga over at LinkedIn. As unemployment rises and hiring slows globally, job seekers face intensified competition, with many increasing their job search efforts.
LinkedIn’s Job Seeker Intensity Index reveals that countries like Singapore, the US, and the UK have seen significant increases in job-seeking intensity, especially in industries like Technology and Financial Services.
Millennials and Gen Z are leading the charge, though Baby Boomers have shown the most significant increase in intensity this year.
Despite a dip in workforce confidence earlier in the summer, there’s been a slight rebound, though many workers still feel stuck in their current roles.

New LinkedIn data shows that the average number of applications made per job applicant on the platform is on the rise, signaling that job seekers are searching more intensely for open roles. βFinding work has become increasingly challenging as hiring has not just slowed in the U.S., but across the globe,β LinkedInβs Head of Economics, Kory Kantenga, explained.
FACT! Singapore, the U.S. and the U.K top the list of countries with the highest levels of job seeking intensity. Globally, the industries seeing the most job seeking intensity include technology and media, professional services and financial services. βThis comes as no surprise, given that labor markets for these industries slowed significantly as interest rates rose across the globe,β Kantenga continued.
