I had to chance to interview Mark Heuer of Mark4Hire.com. about his unusual, guerilla-style marketing technique to post his resume on an outdoor billboard after the 2008 financial crisis. Talk about some outside-the-box marketing! This was from July 9th, 2013.

Mark Heuer put up a billboard 16 feet high x 60 feet long in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Billboard created national coverage on ABC, NBC, FOX, CNN, Good Morning America, countless newspapers and radio shows. With over 2,000 responses and 80 career opportunities offered, Heuer choose senior living as the next step. Heuer is a resourceful leader with over 25 years sales, operations and senior management experience. Heuer’s greatest strength has been the ability to execute. Execute through aligned strategy and building accountability driven teams with leading culture centered around the “philosophy of ownership”. Mark Heuer has served his career in operations & turnaround management, logistics, sales management, contracting and project management. A personal friend, Jim Stapleton, once told Heuer, “if you want to get hit by a car, you have to be in traffic”. What better way to honor this statement than to stick up a billboard for exposure in a time of need. Mark also is a firm believer in the principles of servitude, “One must be willing to serve, in order to be served”. And understanding “Humility”, the fact it’s ok to seek help and accept the help we are offered. For Mark, humility is also the understanding spiritually we deserve nothing. Mark has shared his experience through several speaking engagements with career seekers and business leaders with a key note topic of; “Humility – The Art of Networking”. Mark Heuer’s key note engagements have assisted others in finding work through new principles well beyond putting up a billboard and has taught the art of networking through principles of “Helping others with no expectation of return”. Mark’s greatest advice for career seekers is to simply walk in the front door vs. sitting behind one’s computer.
