I came across this wonderful article by Irina Shamaeva of Booleanstrings (if you don’t know, go check this website out, link in the comments) about how you can boost your visibility and help thrust you into the driver’s seats during all those recruiter or hiring manager searches.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Based on her experience sourcing on LinkedIn, here is a list of profile hacks she came up with to help be discovered more often, both on LinkedIn and LinkedIn Recruiter:

โœ”๏ธ When you enter your data, follow prompts and selections โ€“ do not enter unusually spelled names
โœ”๏ธUse your industry, not your companyโ€™s
โœ”๏ธYour companies should point to company pages on LinkedIn; same for schools
โœ”๏ธUse standard job titles (e.g., โ€œSoftware Developerโ€ not โ€œChief Coderโ€)
โœ”๏ธDo not enter years of study โ€“ this way, you will be found by any range of years of study
โœ”๏ธAdd a degree or certification abbreviations to your last name
โœ”๏ธOtherwise, do not abbreviate words
โœ”๏ธLinkedIn does not search for words in the โ€œAccomplishedโ€ sections. If you graduated with honors, got certified, or won a competition, say so in summary
โœ”๏ธDo not put closing dates on the last few jobs โ€“ you will then be found for each keyword in the job titles or companies
โœ”๏ธYou can add a fake job with just the title you want – or say it in the headline
โœ”๏ธExplain your skills and experience either in summary or in the last 1-2 position descriptions:
โœ”๏ธWhat have you done, and what was achieved?
โœ”๏ธWrite concrete facts and figures; do not praise yourself
โœ”๏ธVary the ways you speak about the job, phrase your skills in different ways
โœ”๏ธRun Grammarly
โœ”๏ธTake skill quizzes
โœ”๏ธAdd 50 standard skills to your profile
โœ”๏ธAdd languages knowledge
โœ”๏ธGo easy on your part-time activities, hobbies, and family
โœ”๏ธBe alone in your profile picture
โœ”๏ธGet at least 500 connections with LIONs
โœ”๏ธAdd a publicly visible email address to your profile
โœ”๏ธJoin relevant groups
โœ”๏ธShare content on your timeline and run polls
โœ”๏ธRespond to othersโ€™ professional content, @mention them
โœ”๏ธAttach your resume to the profile and say so up front in summary
โœ”๏ธDo not change default settings except email notifications
โœ”๏ธGet a premium account and allow everyone to message you
โœ”๏ธTurn on โ€œOpen to Workโ€ when you are ready

๐Ÿ‘‰ Also, some other tips I came across that are absolutely brilliant:

โœ”๏ธAdd a LinkedIn background photo to your Profile.
โœ”๏ธAdd a ProFinder Badge to your Profile.
โœ”๏ธTake advantage of the blog and website links on your LinkedIn Profile.
โœ”๏ธOptimize your LinkedIn Profile for the search engines.
โœ”๏ธAdd, remove, and rearrange sections of your Profile.
โœ”๏ธUse Saved Searches and Search Alerts in Recruiter.
โœ”๏ธList job opportunities and recruit new talent with LinkedIn’s job postings.
โœ”๏ธTake advantage of LinkedIn Endorsements.
โœ”๏ธUse Open Profile to send messages to people you’re not connected to.
โœ”๏ธCheck your Network Updates or share your own.
โœ”๏ธBe identifiable.
โœ”๏ธCheck out who’s viewed your LinkedIn Profile.
โœ”๏ธExport connections.
โœ”๏ธCustomize your Connections to grow your professional network.
โœ”๏ธJoin LinkedIn Groups.
โœ”๏ธCreate your own LinkedIn Group.
โœ”๏ธCommunicate with your LinkedIn Group.
โœ”๏ธShare your LinkedIn status updates on Twitter.
โœ”๏ธLeverage @mentions in your status updates.
โœ”๏ธOptimize your LinkedIn Company Page.
โœ”๏ธCreate LinkedIn Showcase Pages.
โœ”๏ธPost company status updates and target them.
โœ”๏ธCheck out LinkedIn’s Content Marketing Score & Trending Content resources.
โœ”๏ธExperiment with LinkedIn’s Sponsored Content and Native Ads.
โœ”๏ธShare content through LinkedIn’s publishing platform.
โœ”๏ธAdd a Page Follow Button to your website.
โœ”๏ธAnalyze your LinkedIn marketing performance.
