Look Ma! I’m In The LinkedIn Top Voice’s Club!
Last month, I received an email from LinkedIn notifying me that I had been selected to join their invitation-only Top Voices program for 2024. As you can imagine, I was thrilled and honored to be chosen for this prestigious program that features some of the most impactful creators and thought leaders on the LinkedIn platform.
Becoming a Top Voice has been a goal of mine for a while, but I wasn’t sure if or when I would ever actually achieve it. So getting that acceptance email honestly felt surreal. I want to reflect on my journey and share some insights for others hoping to one day earn the Top Voice badge as well.
The Foundation: Creating Valuable Content
They say that if you build it, they will come. When it comes to gaining influence on LinkedIn, creating value for your community through consistent, high-quality content is key. For the past two years, I’ve focused on posting thoughtful commentary, useful advice, and unique perspectives related to my niche topics like leadership, workplace culture, and career development.
I aim to foster engaging, insightful discussions that help professionals navigate modern career paths. And based on the site analytics, personal feedback, and growing engagement, the content seems to truly resonate with readers. This reader value is likely what put me on LinkedIn’s radar early on.
Expanding My Reach Through Groups
While nourishing my main feed with regular posts, I also made an effort to get involved in relevant LinkedIn groups. This opened doors to new audiences interested in what I had to share. I never spam groups with repetitive promos. Instead, I contribute to conversations and provide advice tailored to each group’s specific focus area.
This genuine engagement within LinkedIn’s group ecosystem expanded my reach and helped position me as an expert voice members were eager to hear from. I believe this activity within groups accelerated my path to becoming a Top Voice.
Leveraging Live Video Broadcasting
Over the past year, I began experimenting with TikTok. Broadcasting real-time commentary presents huge opportunities to display thought leadership and allow viewers to get to know you beyond the screen. As I continued going live around topics related to my content focus, I saw tangible growth in my follower numbers along with increased post performance metrics.
Giving my community face-to-face virtual interactions through live video clearly expanded my digital influence capabilities while enhancing my personal brand. This likely gave the Top Voices selection team greater confidence in my abilities as an impactful creator.
The Power of Perseverance
Gaining authority and prominence ona platform as vast as LinkedIn does not happen overnight. Committing to continuously create, connect, and nurture my community has been no quick and easy feat. But refusing to quit when growth seemed stagnant is ultimately what led me to this goal.
If you hope to make headway on LinkedIn and truly establish yourself as a subject matter expert, consistency and perseverance even amidst seeming insignificance is a must. Keep showing up day in and day out, continue crafting content you believe in, and your breakout moment will come in good time. Mine happened to be making the Top Voice program’s 2024 class…and I cannot wait to see the doors this will open.
