Millions of people are underemployed, out of work, or can’t access reliable transportation and new opportunities.
So Lyft came up with the LyftUp program in partnership with Goodwill and United Way to provide access to the rides people need to improve their lives.
Rides donated by the Lyft community are distributed by United Way and Goodwill — these free rideshare, bike, or scooter rides help people get to interview prep, job interviews, and/or a job.
The difference between landing a job and a lost opportunity often comes down to a ride. Per a Harvard source, “Inadequate transportation is a barrier to employment opportunities and economic advancement for millions of Americans.”
The expansion of the program is intended to support the economic mobility and recovery of tens of millions of people who are unemployed or underemployed – especially among communities of color – amid the unemployment crisis brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
Also part of the expansion is a job access hub – a digital hub that will make it easier to get access to rides who need them. People will have the option to donate a ride to Goodwill or United Way, and job seekers will be connected with charitable organizations.
What are your thoughts on Lyft’s plans to help those job seekers out there who are struggling with transportation? Drop a note over here and leave some thoughts. Also, check the article below for a more in-depth look into the program.
