⚠️ Cover letters matter, people! In the job hunting game, 50% of the decision-makers read them! 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗔𝗠𝗘.
🙏 I was fortunate enough to be tapped by Jim Leonard over at Kitchen Table Adulting to speak about best (and worst) cover letter practices on his awesome podcast. Link in the comments!
🎙️Some quick takeaways:
✅ Build a cover letter that stands out. While only half the recruiters/hiring managers will read them, it’s important to have it.
✅ Trying to resonate with the hiring manager shouldn’t be scary. Your goal is to show your brand advocacy.
✅ Quickly demonstrate the “why” you’re a good fit for their organization by personally customizing the cover letter so your story builds an emotional connection with the reader.
✅ Show them your connection with their brand and why you love it. How have you personally experienced their brand and what was the effect?
✅ Get the reader to stop skimming over details, as they may do due to time constraints, and to actually focus and read your resume beyond the 6 seconds.
✅ Finally, do not make it longer than half a page, it’s not meant to be a novel.
