Check out our President, Matt Warzel, on Mac Pritchard’s Find Your Dream Job Podcast (Mac’s Playlist)
🚀 I had the awesome opportunity to speak with Mac Pritchard on his weekly Find Your Dream Job Podcast (apart of Mac’s Playlist) last week!
ATS’ are essentially software that stores resumes for hiring teams and recruiters for future retrieval or matching candidates with open requisitions through searching the ATS.
Some, more sophisticated, actually act as a gatekeeper, so the “robots” will do the sourcing and sorting of candidates and send those matches to the recruiters for vetting.
I write all of my resumes in adherence to best resume writing practices, which include incorporating keywords and strategies for the digital application process.
ATS software aids companies with streamlining the hiring process and reviewing applications more quickly.
Paper applications are dated these days.
There are too many candidates to keep up with if you are not using an ATS.
The systems organize and sort applications, they can also be setup to screen candidates based on the resume’s content.
Many ATS’ score applications and rank their visibility per their alignment with the job description.
Aside from content, the ATS has a hard time parsing the data from the application/resume into the ATS if the resume has any text boxes, borders, headers/footers, columns, graphics, pictures, etc.
So the rule of thumb is less is more, focus on the content.
From his post:
Merely mentioning the words “applicant tracking system” can strike fear in the heart of a job seeker. We tend to fear what we aren’t familiar with and when our livelihood is on the line, it’s easy to understand why. But rather than fear them, Find Your Dream Job guest Matt Warzel says you need to learn how to benefit from them.
When approached correctly, an ATS can help you get in front of a hiring manager more quickly, and allow you to showcase your skills prior to an interview. Matt shares the exact method he uses with clients to get the best results when applying through an ATS.
