Job hopping, which is the pattern of staying in jobs for only a short amount of time, was once seen as a sign of instability or disloyalty. In recent years, though, that perception has changed, as job hopping has become more accepted.
With the pandemic shaking up the labor market and shifting employeesβ priorities, the once-frowned-upon practice has grown in popularity among workers who want to find aΒ better career fitΒ or earn more money in a world where stability and job security is no longer the norm.

Matthew Warzel, a former recruiter who founded career counseling firmΒ MJW Careers, said candidates should ideally shoot for three to five years with a company. If you feel like you need to expand your skills or professional experiences, Warzel said employees would be better off taking a course instead of burning bridges with an employer.
