Some of us find a job. Some find a career. And some find a calling.

My chronological career path was as follows:

Age 14 – Neighbor mechanic’s garage, home, and lawn helper

Age 15 – Host at a German restaurant

Age 16 – Homebuilder helper

Age 17-19 – Retail grocery store customer service, stocker, and cashier

Age 20-23 – Restaurant server

Age 23-24 – Paper salesman

Age 24-31 – Recruiter

Age 25-Present – Actor and filmmaker

Age 31-Present – Small business owner (resume writing, interview coaching, job hunting strategist, LinkedIn social media expert, career consultant, outplacement specialist, speaker, and author)

Research the Industry – You Want To Be In If your goal is to work in a different industry, start by doing your research. Read: What It Means To Live a Truly Rich Life and How To Achieve It “Get a feel for the way the industry and respective companies function in the world, the services they provide to others and the types of jobs in that industry that could pose as a potential new career,” said Matthew Warzel, president of MJW Careers. “I love using Google News, Google alerts, Salary.com, Glassdoor, Indeed and LinkedIn to uncover industry and job research.”

I was one of the lucky ones to find a job, career and calling that fits my life.
