A friend, age 60, has been applying for jobs. Online applications aren’t asking for her birth date but are requiring a graduation date, which obviously will show her age. She is concerned this is a weeding out mechanism but can’t complete the application unless she enters a date. Is there any wav around this kind or situation, which many older lod applicants are. encountering?
My take?
There’s no getting around the fact that ageism exists, says Matthew Warzel, president of MJW Careers, LLC. “People with a ton of experience and ever more wisdom face the harsh realities that some companies will want to hire younger โ and cheaper,” he says, “However, understand that it’s the interview that can dictate your outcome. In the interview room, you can take control.”
