My take?
Quote 1 (Job Hunting): Confidence is key, and the best way to possess and exude confidence is through knowledge. Research the role and investigate the industry, major players, products/offerings/services, and news. Understand the function your new role would play in the company. Why is there an opening? What pain points do the hiring managers have because of the opening? How can you make their lives easier if they hire you? As the big interview day approaches, dedicate time to practice, practice, and practice some more. Armed with confidence and well-informed research, deliver your stories to wow the hiring panel. Show your personality, let your passion shine through, and remember: You’re not just a resume on a screen β you’re a talented, unique individual with something incredible to offer.
Quote 2 (Resumes): A winning resume highlights relevant hard and soft skills. Hard skills encompass learned abilities such as writing, math, and proficiency with computer programs. In contrast, soft skills are interpersonal traits such as communication and collaboration that make you a good employee. Recruiters value hard skills such as project management, data analysis, software development, and digital management. They value soft skills such as adaptability, creativity, critical thinking, resilience, empathy, and problem-solving. Also, maintain clarity and conciseness in the employment history section. Limiting the detailed employment summary to a maximum of 10 years of experience helps keep the focus on recent and relevant roles. List relevant details such as titles, dates, accomplishments, employer locations, and educational background. Confusion about employment history, such as missing dates, will prompt the recruiter or hiring manager to move on quickly.
Quote 3 (Career Transitions): My best advice for career shifters is to take a mental break firstβ¦ then internalize, realize, and visualize. Identify your value to prospective employers, focusing on passions and transferable skills. Reverse engineer your career path from your ideal job description and see what you have and what needs up-skilling. Think long game: What motivates you? What’s your passion? What can you do that will make you happy in three months or a year?
Quote 4 (LinkedIn): Recruiters are constantly scouring LinkedIn, and your ranking greatly influences your visibility in search results, with only the top 25-50 candidates typically considered in each search. To optimize your profile, focus on securing endorsements for your top 10 to 15 skills listed and ensure they are prominently featured in your header, summary, and experience sections. Completing your entire profile and populating fields extensively increases your chances of ranking higher for specific competencies in recruiter searches.
