Most Job Seekers Are Using AI Wrong

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵.

I recently reviewed a prompt library resource guide created for career services professionals, and it reinforced something I see every day: AI is only as powerful as the instructions you give it.

Most job seekers ask ChatGPT things like:

❌ “Write me a resume.”

But career professionals know the better approach is:

✅ “Act as a Certified Professional Résumé Writer specializing in my target industry. Review my experience and identify the top skills hiring managers want for this role.”

That’s a completely different conversation—and a completely different outcome.

The candidates getting the most value from AI today aren’t replacing strategy with technology. They’re combining strategy, industry knowledge, and thoughtful prompting to accelerate their job search.

A few reminders:
• AI can help organize your story, but it can’t create accomplishments you never achieved.
• AI can improve your messaging, but it can’t replace networking.
• AI can optimize your resume, LinkedIn profile, and cover letter, but it can’t build your personal brand for you.
• AI is a tool—not a career strategy.

The future belongs to professionals who learn how to work alongside AI, not fear it or blindly rely on it.
