A working-class (brilliant) coder shakes up the music industry and starts the first LEGAL music streaming business.

SPOILER ALERT: He made his first million ($10M to be exact) on a company he built in 6 months that shook up digital advertising. He did this to spite Google for not hiring him. He was 23.

What’s interesting was that as hard-working and intelligent as a subject matter expert as Daniel Ek (the founder) was about the technical aspects, he fought hard not to be in the music business.

What’s funny? He was obsessed with music.

It’s what got him thinking about starting a content streaming company, one that would legalize the pirates of Pirate Bays’ offering.

But no matter how smart he was. No matter how many contacts he would make. The one thing this dude did well?

Take risk.

He did whatever it took to perfect Spotify.

He knew there were levels to this ish.

This so relates to the professional.

We take risks every day just leaving the house in a 5,000-pound, gas-filler rhino driving 80 miles an hour with hundreds of others doing the same thing around us.

But risks in our career? Sometimes that’s even too daunting to think about.

It shouldn’t. We should all dream to take risks. To give into our impulses.

To do what we love.

Woah. Crazy, right? No! It shouldn’t be. It should be something we all try, even just once.

Life’s short. Go for it. Start a Spotify. Start a band. Start a book. Go be in a movie.

Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t. Just start at level one and go from there.
