Interviews can go in many different directions.
Sometimes you feel like you nailed it, only to be turned down for the job.
Sometimes people wing it and end up being the #1 candidate.
Sometimes you say something and didn’t even realize it was the single reason you’re back on the job hunt the following week.
And sometimes, it’s the most simple of mistakes, such as forgetting the hiring manager’s name or wearing the wrong clothes that leave the decision team at odds when considering you as the new employee.
And then there’s the crowd who choose not to ask any closing questions.
For those of you that fit into this category, here’s some sage advice: 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣 đť—śđť—§!
You MUST ask some closing questions. It’s essential. And here are a few reasons why:
âś… It keeps you in the room.
âś… It gives you more chances to shine and speak about more wins that were never able to come out during the interview.
âś… It gets the hiring team talking about themselves or their company (which they love doing).
âś… It allows you to further vet the company to identify that all-important relationship match.
âś… It eliminates any final concerns you may have about them as a company.
So for this month’s poll, I wanted to get some insights as to what you think is the most important closing question.
Some ideas:
❓What else can the person filling this position do to make your job easier?
❓I read that X, Y and Z are the company’s values. Can you give me an example of what these values look like in action?
❓What are the metrics my performance will be evaluated against?
❓What are the biggest challenges the team is facing currently, and what are the most significant growth opportunities?
❓Is there any other information you need from me regarding my application?
❓Do you have any hesitations about me for this position?
❓How do I compare to my competition?
❓Is there any reason why I would not be an asset in the job I am interviewing for?
❓I want to work for your company; can you see any reason how I might not fit into your corporate culture?
❓Is there anything hindering me from moving forward in the interview process?
❓Where do I go from here? Can you tell me about the rest of the interviewing process?
❓Is there any reason why we can’t set up the next interview now?
❓Why does this role matter to the growth of the company?
❓Could I meet some of the people I’d be working with?
❓Why is there an opening? Why had the previous employee leave?
❓Do you know when I might hear correspondence regarding the next step?
