𝚁𝚎𝚌𝚛𝚞𝚒𝚝𝚎𝚛𝚜 𝚘𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚗 𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚊𝚔 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚔𝚎𝚢𝚠𝚘𝚛𝚍𝚜 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚔𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚜 𝚒𝚗 𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚞𝚖𝚎 𝚠𝚛𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐.
👉With high volumes of applications, many companies rely on applicant tracking software (ATS) to screen suitable candidates based on keywords―and when reviewed by the human eye, most recruiters spend less than 6 seconds scanning a resume.
👉To ensure job seekers make it over these first hurtles, the wonderful Education Committee at CDI (a committee and affiliation I belong to) reached out to a handful of recruiters from different industries to find out.
👉While the recruiters vary in their thoughts on the placement of hard skills on the resume, they agree that they play a critical role in the application process, particularly during the initial screening of a candidate’s resume.
👉It’s important to educate job seekers on the role of ATS and how the inclusion of keywords throughout the resume will satisfy preliminary scans.
👉To ensure the right hard skills are incorporated, it will be helpful to have the job seekers send a targeted job description while allowing me to conduct my own research to identify those transferable skills and achievements that will resonate with the recruiters and hiring managers.
👉I also included a slide below to demonstrate the key values and benefits that resume writers and career coaches offer clients. When clients see a role they’re targeting, resume writers and career coaches see freedom, improved financial planning, and forthcoming happy retirements.
