Imagine your future self sending you a thank-you card for the career move you’re about to make. What would it say? One thing is that you decided to take action and create your own opportunities rather than relying on availability.

So how do we take the proverbial bull by the horns? I can say it should start by hitting the hidden job market.

Unless you know someone, during a job hunt, tapping the hidden job market is key! While some companies may announce hiring freezes, many are still replacing naturally turning-over staff.

Around 80% of jobs aren’t publicly advertised. For it to get onto a job board, that means they exhausted all other resources internally. Your goal is to be in the mix of those internal resources…find someone who can vouch for you! Networking is vital.

Reconnect with past interviewers, previous colleagues, and contacts from organizations. Engage with industry-focused recruiters and business associations, and consider opportunities with non-profits, government sectors, and international companies. Volunteering can also lead to future job offers.

By leveraging your network and exploring various avenues, you can uncover hidden job opportunities and advance your career. Also, lean on recruiters, sometimes they have exclusivity on some hidden roles.
