Your resume gets about three seconds of attention before a recruiter decides whether to keep reading.

Okay, maybe a few more. 😂

But here’s the point:

Your resume doesn’t have much time to make its case.

And yet I constantly see talented job seekers burying their BEST stuff somewhere on page two.

They’ll lead with:

“Responsible for managing…”

“Duties included…”

“Worked closely with…”

Then 14 bullets later casually mention:

Oh yeah, I increased revenue 37%.

WAIT.

THAT’S THE GOOD STUFF! 😂

Think about your resume like a movie trailer.

The trailer doesn’t spend two minutes explaining where everyone went to college.

It shows you the explosions.

Your resume should do the same thing.

Not literal explosions, please.

Your professional explosions are:
💥 Revenue generated
💥 Costs reduced
💥 Teams built
💥 Problems solved
💥 Processes improved
💥 Customers won
💥 Promotions earned
💥 Projects delivered
💥 Organizations transformed

Those are the things that separate you from every other candidate who performed similar responsibilities.

And THAT is where many job seekers get stuck.

They know what they did.

They don’t always recognize what was impressive about it.

After 10 or 20 years, your biggest accomplishments can start feeling normal to YOU.

They’re not normal.

They’re evidence.

That’s what I spend a lot of time uncovering when writing resumes for clients.

We dig through the career.

Find the wins.

Connect the dots.

Pull out the numbers.

Then build a resume that makes someone think:

“Okay…I need to talk to this person.”

Because that’s the resume’s job.

Not to get you hired.

To get you the interview.

Then YOU take it from there.

MJW Takeaway:

Stop writing your resume like a job description.

Start writing it like a highlight reel.

Your responsibilities tell employers what you were supposed to do.

Your accomplishments tell them how damn good you were at doing it.
