Recruiters cannot automate one side of the hiring process and then clutch their pearls when candidates do the same.
AI agent job searching is coming. Honestly, it is already here.
This open source AI Job Search framework runs locally and helps job seekers build a profile, search and rank opportunities, evaluate fit, tailor resumes, draft cover letters, track applications, prepare for interviews, and identify skill gaps.
It does not simply fire the same generic resume at 500 employers. It is designed to evaluate each opportunity, create tailored materials, review the output, and keep the candidate’s claims grounded in their actual experience.
That distinction matters.
I have never supported the spray and pray approach. More applications do not automatically create better results. Strategy, positioning, networking, follow-up, and human judgment still matter.
But we also need to be realistic about the environment job seekers are operating in.
Employers use ATS platforms, knockout questions, automated sourcing, AI screening, templated rejections, and increasingly sophisticated hiring technology. It is completely rational for candidates to use technology to research opportunities, assess fit, improve their positioning, and reduce hours of repetitive application work.
The sooner we accept that AI agents will become a standard layer between people and information, including job opportunities, the sooner we can build a hiring process that restores some balance between employers and candidates.
If you are searching right now and have the technical comfort to set this up, try it and report back. I genuinely want to hear what worked, what did not, and whether it improved the quality of your search.
If you are a recruiter who dislikes AI-powered candidates, I have a sincere question:
How is your organization using AI to give thoughtful and fair consideration to the applications coming from rational job seekers using tools like this?
The answer cannot be automation for employers, but manual labor for candidates.

One important note: This is a technical framework, not a one-click consumer app. Its core workflow can be adapted broadly, although several of its included job portal tools were created for the Danish market.
