Thinking of Starting a Consulting or Service-Based Business?

Founder. Owner. Operator. Startup Venturist. Entrepreneur. Solopreneur. Gig Economist. Freelancer. Consultant.

Whatever you want to call it, it’s someone’s official title.

I consider it business farming.

Let me explain…

I remember way back in 2009 when I was starting my own business as a full-time thing, I had family members and friends joke about how I didn’t really “work” since I was unemployed.

I wasn’t setting alarms or staying past 5 sometimes.

I wasn’t being judged on performance by leadership.

I wasn’t sending in reports each week to someone, somewhere.

I was planting seeds.

I was setting myself up for future success.

I was a business farmer.

Each and every step I took, I was led to believe it was for the greater purpose.

It was something towards my future.

It was something worth trying.

And sometimes they worked.

Sometimes they didn’t.

But failures didn’t stop me. You will fail, over and over again if you want to start a business.

With that said, I’d love to help anyone out there considering a side gig (or full-time independent journey) with some SMB consulting solutions (feel free to reach out if you need help) and with some quick day 1 bytes below. Hopefully, it will help someone out there inspired to take the bold move and venture off on his or her own! Setup:

โœ”๏ธ Accounting, payment transaction protocol, business listing/local tax office awareness procedures, and proper tax entity

โœ”๏ธ Legal contracts, business registration, and small business insurance

โœ”๏ธ Website, proper landing pages, business email, and Google listing

โœ”๏ธ Marketing (logos, press releases, content creation) and social (Yelp, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook Page, Youtube)

โœ”๏ธ Industry insights & best practices (Google News alerts, online networking, forum Q&A, association gatherings)

โœ”๏ธ Sales & lead generation (LinkedIn networking, LinkedIn scraping, LinkedIn Marketplace, sales funnels/landing pages, sales scripts, Calendly for scheduling meetings, calendar for project tracking, authoring books)

And by the way, I only made $1225 in my first year of business, but that first B2C and then B2B transaction made me think that this wild idea may not be so crazy after all.
