For some old school #ThrowbackThursday, we wanted to share our President Matt Warzel‘s first official client check from back in 2010. Matt closed the first official outplacement deal after he had ripped his pants from getting out of the car prior to his meeting. As embarrassing as it was, he semi-duck walked through the office until he was able to sit behind the desk, helping cover the open window. Matt was battling severe anxiety having been made redundant a few months prior, was struggling to start his business, running out of money, weighed 350 pounds at the time, and sweated profusely during the sales meeting. Luckily he found some comfort with his wife by his side during the meeting.

Flash forward 10 years, and Matt’s down to under 240, has built a progressing resume writing and career coaching firm, and has found fulfillment in his career. It definitely was a long road with tons of setbacks, but thriving and surviving are apart of life for everyone. We just need to show some compassion for others who may be just getting started on his or her new journey to fulfillment.

Here’s a picture of that first check and actually, Matt and the client’s representative, HR Tod, remained friends, and actually had a laugh over lunch about the pants. Sometimes laughing at yourself can help break up the weight, of the mind.
