What Are My 3 Buckets of Resume Content?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝘆 𝟯 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁?

Most resumes miss the mark because they focus only on duties.

But hiring managers are not reading your resume asking, “What tasks did this person do?”

They’re asking:
Can I relate to this background?
Did this person move the needle?
What makes them stand out?

That’s why at MJW Careers I teach clients to build resume content in 3 buckets:

1. What Is Relatable
Content the reader instantly understands and connects to. Leadership, managing teams, budgets, projects, customer growth, operations, solving problems, improving processes. This helps them quickly see where you fit.

2. What Are Bottom-Line Impacts
The numbers, wins, and measurable outcomes. Revenue growth, cost savings, productivity gains, turnaround results, promotions, retention, efficiency, market share, customer satisfaction. This proves value.

3. What Is Unique
The differentiators most people forget to include. Awards, speaking engagements, media mentions, patents, inventions, volunteer leadership, board work, side businesses, special certifications, training programs created, company recognition, elite teams, standout experiences (you were on an Olympics team!?!). This creates intrigue.

Most resumes have some relatable content.
Too few show bottom-line impact.
Almost none fully leverage what makes them unique.

That third bucket is often the hidden gold.

You may think it’s “not a big deal” that you were featured in a company newsletter, asked to train others, spoke at an event, built a side business, or earned a special recognition.

To an employer, it can signal credibility, trust, leadership, and initiative.

A great resume doesn’t just explain your past.
