You Don’t Have to DIY Everything

Writing your own resume always sounds easy…

Until you actually sit down to do it. 😂

You open the document.

Change the font.

Change it back.

Rewrite the summary.

Delete the summary.

Spend 20 minutes deciding whether “managed” should be “led.”

Google “best resume format 2026.”

Suddenly it’s three hours later and you’ve accomplished approximately NOTHING.

Meanwhile, you still have a job.

A family.

Meetings.

Emails.

Networking.

Applications.

LinkedIn.

Interview prep.

And apparently you’re now supposed to become a professional resume writer too. 😂

Here’s something job seekers need to hear:

Your time has value.

Yes, you CAN write your own resume.

You can also change your own oil, cut your own hair, and watch YouTube videos until you’re technically qualified to replace your garbage disposal.

That doesn’t always mean you SHOULD.

Resume writing is especially difficult because you’re trying to objectively market something you’re incredibly close to:

YOURSELF.

You know everything you’ve done.

But do you know which accomplishments employers actually care about?

Which metrics should lead?

What should disappear?

How should you position a career change?

Which keywords matter?

How do you tell 15+ years of experience without writing a six-page autobiography?

That’s where professional resume writing can save more than time.

It can provide perspective.

When I work with clients, I’m looking for things they often overlook because those accomplishments have become “normal” to them.

The revenue increase.

The turnaround.

The promotion.

The process improvement.

The team they built.

The multimillion-dollar project they casually forgot to mention. 😂

My job is to uncover the good stuff, connect the dots, and turn it into a document that quickly communicates:

Here’s who I am.

Here’s what I’ve accomplished.

Here’s the value I bring.

And here’s why you should talk to me.

Then YOU can spend your time on the parts of the job search nobody else can do for you.

Building relationships.

Researching companies.

Preparing for interviews.

Having conversations.

And finding the right opportunity.

MJW Takeaway:

You don’t get bonus points for doing every part of your job search yourself.

Sometimes the smartest move isn’t working harder.

It’s knowing where your time is best spent.

Let your resume do its job.

So you can focus on landing yours.
